Lot 2 - GONZALO PÉREZ ESPOLITA (Avilés,1901-Oviedo,1966). "Fishermen". Oil on panel. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 35 x 52 cm; 49 x 66 cm (frame). Gonzalo Perez Espolita was part of the first generations of Asturian art of the twentieth century. He received his first technical classes at the School of Arts and Crafts in Avilés. In 1922, with the arrival in the city of the critic José Francés, a series of exhibitions began that would have great repercussions in Asturian artistic circles. In the same year of 1922, thanks to his participation in the first of these exhibitions, organized by the Society of Friends of Art, the City Council of Avilés granted him a meager scholarship to study at the Special School of Painting (Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando) in Madrid. He participated in all the exhibitions promoted by José Francés, including the Exhibition of Asturian Artists that took place in the National Library, organized by the newspaper Heraldo de Madrid, in 1926. He presented his work at the International Painting Exhibition, held under the umbrella of the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona, in 1929. His first individual exhibition was not held until 1944, in the Casino of Avilés. The last part of his life was dedicated to teaching in his studio. Two of his most outstanding commissions are: El descubrimiento, a large canvas for the Asturian Center in Havana, and, around 1940, the frescoes for the church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Villalegre, Avilés.

Lot 3 - RAFAEL ALBERTI (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, 1902 - 1999). "Flamenco dancer". Oil on wood. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 34 x 24 cm; 48 x 38 cm (frame). Rafael Alberti was a writer and poet belonging to the Generation of 27, considered one of the greatest writers of the so-called Silver Age of Spanish literature. He received numerous awards and recognitions, among them the National Poetry Prize (1925), the Lenin de la Paz (1965), the National Theater Prize (1980), the Cervantes Prize (1983) and the Rome Prize for Literature (1991). He renounced the other great award of Spanish literature, the Prince of Asturias, due to his strong republican convictions. Rafael Alberti's first vocation was painting, but his real discovery of this art took place in 1917, when he moved to Madrid with his family and visited the Prado Museum for the first time. He then made his plastic work known for the first time in 1920, at the Salón de Otoño in Madrid, and two years later he exhibited at the Athenaeum in the same city. His painting was characterized by the fact that it was not his definitive path, since after the death of his father, he began to write his first verses. As a writer, Alberti enjoyed great success from the beginning of his career, but at first his success was linked to artistic prestige, since he was still economically dependent on his family. The new literary magazines accepted and wanted to publish his works. He was also beginning to make friends within the circle that today is known as the Generation of '27. He began to write in a style that was not only more demanding formally, but also allowed him to be more satirical and dramatic. Since then, his life will be opening to what will be the center of his inspiration, poetry, without completely abandoning his pictorial vocation. Among his last works is A la pintura ('On Painting') (1945). They reflect his intellectual activity during his exile, since Alberti returned to painting and began a series of poems to gather his thoughts on painting. A subject to which he continued to devote himself for many years. Among these poems dedicated to painting he wrote a series of sonnets about the retina, the hand, the canvas, the brush, etc.; a series of short poems in free verse about colors; and finally a series of poems in homage to various painters such as Titian, or El Greco among others.

Lot 6 - ROBERTO DOMINGO FALLOLA (Paris, 1883 - Madrid, 1956). "At the racecourse in Paris". Oil on paper. Signed and located in the lower right corner. The frame has slight flaws. Measurements: 23 x 31 cm; 48 x 57 cm (frame). Domingo began his artistic training in Paris with his father, the painter Francisco Domingo Marqués. There he also knew first hand the French impressionism. In 1906 he moved to Madrid and entered the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts, where he was a disciple of Antonio Muñoz Degraín. He took part in national and foreign exhibitions, obtaining the third medal in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1908, second in the 1910 edition and first in 1915. In 1911 he had a solo exhibition in Rome, at the Fine Arts Pavilion. He also showed his work continuously in several Spanish and London galleries, such as Baillie and Tooth. A costumbrist painter, he specialized in bullfighting themes, which brought him great fame and prestige. His work is characterized by the expressiveness of the stain and the stroke, capturing the reality through a sensitivity that connects with the tradition of Goya, Lucas and Alenza. The spontaneity, fluidity and dynamism of his work is largely due to his ability to memorize reality in his retina and then transfer it to the painting with his own nuance, simplifying the lines and diluting the colors. This vibrant emotion was also appreciated by great international artists of the time, such as John Singer Sargent and Gerald Kelly, who were among his clients. Roberto Domingo is represented in the Prado Museum, the Fine Arts Museum of Granada, the Provincial Museum of Cadiz, the Municipal Museum of Madrid, the Bullfighting Museum of Las Ventas in Madrid, La Maestranza in Seville, Valencia and Viana de Cega (Valladolid), the Drawing Museum of Castillo de Larrés (Huesca) and the Havana and Hemingway Museums of Cuba, among many others.

Outstanding cartoonist and illustrator, Joan Junceda was one of the most important cartoonists of the first half of the 20th century in Catalonia. He worked with important magazines such as "Cu-Cut!", "Papitu", "Picarol" and, above all, "En Patufet". He also illustrated Josep Maria Folch's "Historietas Ejemplares", first published in the magazine "Esquitx". Another of his most important works for children and young people was "Bon seny", a compilation of ancestral Catalan moral lessons, elaborated by Josep Abril. "Bon seny" contains aphorisms, fables and examples of local humor, based on traditional Catalan Christian values, the famous "seny". Published in Catalan before the Civil War, "Bon seny" was a difficult book to find during the Franco era. Junceda's work, very extensive and very popular, stood out for its expressive success, his extraordinary technical skill and his artistic security, and it reflects the ways of life of the Catalan society of the first decades of the twentieth century, through a great power of synthesis. He used the pseudonyms "Titella", "Jafet", "Ribera", "Medí" and "Papassa", and also signed with the anagram of two jacks joined together to form a shape reminiscent of a musical note. Junceda is currently represented in the Esteban Vicente Museum in Segovia.

Lot 64 - Attributed to RICARDO OPISSO I SALA (Tarragona, 1880 - Barcelona, 1966). "Christmas Market". Ink and chalk on paper. Partially lost signature in the lower right corner. Presents tears on the sides. Measurements: 20 x 16 cm; 37 x 31 cm (frame). Opisso was a painter, draftsman and cartoonist. In his youth he participated in the modernist environment of Barcelona, and in fact in 1894 he began to work as an apprentice with Antoni Gaudí in the works of the Sagrada Familia. Two years later, backed by the architect, he became a member of the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc, with whom he would later exhibit in the Sala Parés. He was linked to the group Els Quatre Gats, together with Ramón Casas, Manuel Hugué, Isidre Nonell and Pablo Picasso, among others. In 1901 he made a trip to Paris, where Picasso and Hugué were already there. In 1907 he took part in the Fine Arts Exhibition in Barcelona, and received a third class medal. Due to the dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera, Opisso abandoned political satire and his drawings approached the costumbrista theme, specializing in popular scenes. His works of this period are characterized by presenting motley crowds in popular Barcelona scenes. After having exhibited several times in succession at the Sala Parés, he held his first individual exhibition in 1935, at the Syra galleries in Barcelona. During the post-war period he continued to exhibit in various galleries in Barcelona, and reaped great success with both critics and the public. In 1953 he received the recognition of his hometown in the IV Art Fair of Tarragona. During his early years, apart from his surname, Opisso also used to sign his work with an "O" for Opisso, which contains the "R" of his name. Most of his work is preserved in the Opisso Museum in Barcelona, but it is also present in the National Art Museum of Catalonia and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg. As for exhibitions, the one held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in 2004, under the title "Catalan painting, from naturalism to noucentisme", in which his work "Carnival" was exhibited, stands out. Likewise, the Saló del Tinell (1979), the Palau de la Virreina (1980), the Salón Náutico Internacional de Barcelona (1973), the Fundació La Caixa (1988, 2004, 2008) and the Caixa Tarragona (2003) have dedicated anthological exhibitions to him.

He was a collaborator of "ABC" and "Blanco y Negro", beginning his graphic activity with "El Heraldo de Madrid". In 1955 he founded the Velázquez Group, together with Cruz Herrera, García Carrillero, Huetos, Pinero, García Vázquez, Pérez Gil, Valenciano and Izquierdo Vivas, a group that exhibited for the first time in 1957 at the Salón Dardo in Madrid.
