Viennese Actionism - Brus, Günter. Patent merde. Dedicated to Oswald Wiener. With 4 (instead of 3) mounted original photographs by Hoffenreich, 13 original screenprints (incl. cover) and 29 mostly sheet-sized drawings by Brus in (partly multicolored) matrices. Vienna, self-published, 1969. 80 pp. (text and drawings) in matrices. Staple-stitched original brochure illustrated with 4 silkscreens (spine slightly rubbed). Very rare, important pamphlet by the Viennese Actionists on "Uni-Ferkelei". Here in a more extensive version than the comparable copies known to us, with additional photograph and drawings, a total of approx. 15-24 additional sheets. The additional photo shows the "Action with Diana" from 1967 - One of 70 copies with signed title page. - Archiv Sohm Fig. 226 - The signed title with the handwritten dedication to the artist Margaret Raspé "for Margaret - in gratitude". - The mounted original photographs by Hoffenreich (Vintages. Silver gelatine. 17.5 x 12 cm) were taken during the actions "Strangulation" and "Kunststücke" (see Schastrommel 8b, p. 130). - The booklet "Patent Urinoir" and "Patent Merde", published in 1968, "represent the beginning of a new artistic strategy of going public with the help of a publication that, as a collage of facts, polemics and fiction, allows a reappraisal of the repression and the events surrounding the university action. Brus printed the court records and the anonymous threatening letters, wrote a text alluding to the psychiatric reports and the newspaper campaign with the title 'Günter Brus - most hated Austrian' and added suitable images." (Faber. Brus. Werkumkreisung p. 81 with illustration). - After their action at the University of Vienna on June 7, 1968, Brus, Mühl and Wiener were sentenced to six months of aggravated arrest for disparaging the symbols of the state. During their appeal hearing, Brus works on the publication of "Patent Urinoir" and "Patent Merde". After the appeal is rejected, Brus flees to Germany on the advice of Stenzel and Rühm (cf. Wiener Aktionismus 1960-71 II p.140). - Slightly browned in places due to paper, otherwise a very well-preserved truffled copy.

Viennese Actionism - Brus, Günter and Otto Mühl. Direct Art - Direct Art - Arte Diretta. B & M. Published by: Institut für Direkte Kunst Wien - Vienna Institute for Direct Art. Vienna, 1967. 10 sheets. 30.5 x 11 cm. Original cardboard box (upper corner on both covers with small crease, on the back cover with handwritten comment "ich rede hinein"). Very rare publication probably for the Direct Art Happening on 9.11.1967 in the Porrhaus in Vienna. - Contains the texts "konzept für den österreichischen biennale-beitrag 1968", "Direktes Theater (1966)", "Simultaneous Action - Ornament ist ein Verbrechen" and "Totalaction (für vernünftige geisteskranke nicht ohne bedeutung)". - In the run-up to and during the ZOCK festival, there were strong differences of opinion between the participants, some of which were aired on the open stage. "The animosities after the festival were so strong that the various proponents, but above all Mühl as a representative of Actionism and Wiener as a representative of a more literary position, avoided each other for a while .... (as a result) Mühl now has more contact with Brus again ... At the beginning of November, the two are organizing the Direct Art Festival at the Porrhaus. The program is a sketch-like sequence of small actions performed either by Mühl and Brus, Mühl or Brus alone or Mühl with the 'Direct Art Group' ... The position formulated in hectographed programs shows that this event is also about a strategic separation of the Actionists from the group around Wiener ... Thus it is expressly emphasized that direct art developed exclusively from painting." (Viennese Actionism 1960-71 II p. 211). - Upper corner with small crease throughout, slightly browned due to paper, otherwise in very good condition. VAT: *
