With numerous partly full-page and color illustrations. New York, Editions Alecto of America Limited, 1970. 28 sheets in color offset print. 59.5 x 45.5 cm. Cardboard cover with screw binding and mounted flyleaf on the front cover (screw binding partially detached from the binding, cover somewhat browned and creased). Very rare reprint of the 3rd issue of the magazine, here redesigned as an artist's book in pop folio format. The magazine published by Les Levine "Culture Hero. A fanzine of the stars of the super world" was published from 1969-1970 in only 5 issues. - "Culture Hero may have been the most sacrilegious of the offset underground newspapers of the period." (Battcock, Gregory. Ley Levine. Vancouver Art Gallery, 1974). - "Les Levine who called himself a 'media sculptor' published the art world tabloid 'Culture Hero' in order to expose the reality of the media's role in branding the artist. A cross between Warhol's Interview (founded the same year) and John Wilcock's countercultural paper 'Other Scenes'..." (Allen, Artist's Magazines, 2015). - Upper corner with compression mark throughout, 1st sheet slightly browned, otherwise internally in very good condition. - Provenance: Helmut Anton and Margot Krätz Collection.
