Motivational poster number 27 by Mather & Company, sole distributor for Great Britain and the Irish Free State. - The Mather & Co. work ethic posters became very popular in the 1920s, especially in the USA and other English-speaking countries: employers who wanted to improve the efficiency of their company and also divert employees' attention away from the trade unions could take out a subscription to the posters from Mather & Co. They used catchy slogans, puns and metaphors as well as striking designs by well-known American artists. Sales, and therefore the campaign, ended abruptly after the New York stock market crash and the subsequent global economic crisis. - Sheet somewhat browned and rolled, corners and edges rubbed, in part more heavily browned and with some marginal tears and a few small tears, sheet perforated twice in the upper margin.
