Marius Joseph Saïn (Montfavet, 1877-1961) Project for the war memorial to be erected on the square in front of the Notre-Dame-De-Bon-Repos church in Montfavet, Avignon, 1919 Plaster signed and dated. Height 155 Width 121 Depth approx. 30 cm. MARIUS JOSEPH SAIN "Marius Saïn has been responsible for a number of war memorials in the region, including those in Montfavet, Montélimar, Pont-Saint-Esprit, Vaison and Sarrians, all featuring the figure of the soldier, a theme close to his heart, as he himself was mobilized in 1914. (in echodumardi.com) In our design for the Montfavet monument, the winged Victory crowns with laurels a poilu decorated with the Croix de Guerre, fist clenched, treading on a German spiked helmet. At his feet, a weeping woman holds a soldier lying on the ground, forming a secular Pietà. On the right-hand side of the composition, a radiant sun rises over the rubble of the battlefield. The names of the 62 soldiers from Montfavet who died at the front are engraved. The monument was inaugurated on August 1, 1920.

Charles DURON (1814 - 1872) - Garter bracelet in 750th gold and 925th silver, decorated with diamond-studded crosses on a royal blue guilloché enamel ground evoking an upholstery pattern. The middle simulates a buckle adorned with a large motif set with a drop of cushion-cut diamonds, underlined by a line of roses, the ribbon finished with a scalloped motif adorned with four mobile aiguillettes. Invisible ratchet clasp. Goldsmith's hallmark. Boar's head and rhinoceros head hallmarks. Length: 17 cm Gross weight: 95 g (one small rose missing, a few small enamel chips, but very good overall condition) Charles DURON (1814-1872), a goldsmith and jeweler who apprenticed with Jules Chaise, enjoyed immense success throughout his career. Setting up on his own in 1845, his first creations combined inventiveness and technical perfection, and were recognized at the 1855 Exposition Universelle in Paris, where he received a first-class medal for his "well-made jewelry; enamel bracelets inlaid with roses, remarkable for their finish...". Mastering the art of ceramics to perfection, Vilmos Zsolnay successfully experimented with different glazing techniques. His work was acclaimed at the 1874 World's Fair in Vienna and at the 1878 World's Fair in Paris. The "Zsolnay technique" won the gold medal and Vilmos was awarded the Légion d'Honneur for inventing eosin. Eosin is a high-quality glaze that gives earthenware an iridescent metallic appearance. This colored lustre made Zsolnay's fortune, winning numerous awards over the years, including the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris.

Nice one-piece plate, good roundels and chinstrap, complete interior in good condition, original leather corners, marking on the nape: 165.R and 1915, and on the other side B.A.X-1915. Beautiful helmet, rare. After being severely tested in 1914, in the battles of Gette, Mons, Le Cateau, La Somme, Ourcq, Aisne, Arras, Blangy, Tilloy, Flanders and Artois, the 7th Division fought at La Bassée and Arras, then in Flanders and Artois, throughout 1915.

Very fine markings inside the cap. Good condition, with a few moth holes on the headband. - A woolen jacket model MEJI45 with straight collar, nicely marked inside. Made in TOKYO and dated 1915. Grade to be sewn on shoulders. Reminder of decoration on chest. - A pair of woollen pants model MEJI45, straight, for the troop (TAISHO3) made in HIROSHIMA and dated 1914. Period repairs to knees, right buttock and bottom of pants (rare set).
