Description
Sword of a Knight of the Order of Malta Gilded brass hilt, with two downward-curving quillons, spindle decorated with a white enameled Maltese cross and a frieze of pearls at the bottom. French blade, hallmarked. Wooden scabbard covered with black velvet and brass, decorated with various plants, arabesques and shells, and with the knight's coat of arms under a fleur-de-lis royal crown. Late 19th-early 20th century. Total length 102 cm. A.B.E. (chips to the enamel on the spindle, wear, broken scabbard)
