Prämer,W.W. - Arbor monarchica, repraesentans omnes universi orbis monarchas, id est: pontifices, imperatores, reges, electores, duces et philosophos, illorum vitam & regiminis annos, regnorum ortus & occasus a mundo conditio usq(ue) ad praesentia tempora. Vienna 1698. imp. fol. (61,5:44,5 cm). With 7 folded. Engraved plates. 3 vols. In Ldr.-folder d. (Defective, with larger traces of wear, spine missing). Cf. VD 17 75:706777L and others as well as Jöcher III, 1742 - Rare. Magnificent copper plates, each in the format of c. 210:115 cm, engraved by J. Schmutzer, J. Franck v. Landgraffen and others, each printed from several plates and assembled. "The seven meter high giant family tree engraved in copper, by the court war councilor Wolfgang Wilhelm Prämer, (hangs) splendidly in the Vienna House, Court and State Archives ... It does not show a genealogical lineage, but the historical sequence of the five world monarchies from Adam to Emperor Leopold, arranged in the form of a tree, with the rulers of other empires and great historical figures growing out of the main trunk as branches and offshoots at the respective point in time" (Coreth 42). The individual copies were provided with individual dedication pages, so the text is available in different versions. Here with title, dedication to the council of the city of Augsburg and the "Catalogus authorum"; a leaf "Kurtzer Inhalt", which can be found in one variant, is not present here. - Partly waterstained and somewhat spotty. 1-2 folds of each plate with heavier losses, pitting, smaller tears and tears with some loss of image, the gluing of the joined leaves occasionally detached. Each inscribed in old ink on verso, occasionally slightly worn through, some browning in the folds. The plates more damaged overall, but restorable. - Purchased as viewed.

Vicaire III, 655 f. - First edition with the illustrations by Baron and Nanteuil. - Clean and neat, barely foxed copy in the decorat. Binding d. Zt. - ╔Dabei: Lackalbum.╗ Lacquered wooden cover album with card backing between wooden strips and cord lacing. The front cover with applied appliqué in mother-of-pearl, bone and wood: eagle on a branch with flowers, following a small bird. Probably East Asia, c. 1900. qu.fol. 24 pp. (signs of wear, application with chipping, missing parts and damage, cover with chipped lacquer at bottom and front hinge torn at top). Used as a photo album, with glued-in photo corners but without contents. - ╔Dark purple leather album╗ with gold embossing and color inlaid flower tendrils on the middle sections of the covers and gilt edges. Qu.4°. Contents. 24 colored and 39 white leaves, with 3 pencil sketches (plant and military) and 1 colored pencil drawing (female nude), the remaining leaves blank. Garvey/Wick 50 - Cf. Alexandre pp. 9-11 (ills.). - Each 12 splendid impressions of the month's pictures before the text (in the color set the names of the months already imprinted). A highlight in Grasset's book illustration. - The col. Woodcuts on fine Japan, the second set printed and mounted on thin tissue paper. The important Art Nouveau graphics were created in 1895 for an advertising calendar for the Parisian clothing store La Belle Jardinière, which was then published in two versions in 1896, one with the names of the months and one with company and advertising imprints. - "This series of decorative calendar pages is a lady's book à la mode with comely maidens dressed in 'aesthetic' free-flowing costumes joyfully tending their well-ordered, full-flowering gardens. These garden settings are a foil for his sense of formalized surface pattern, showing the influence of Walter Crane" (Garvey/W.). - The cardboard of the black and white woodcuts and the OU somewhat foxed, otherwise a fine copy. 12 gorgeous proofs of month illustrations before text. Set of 12 col. woodcuts on Japan and a second set of woodcuts on mounted silk paper. Contemp. half vellum (orig. wrappers bound in) with lettering in red and black. - The board with the 12 black and white woodcuts and the orig. wrappers slightly foxed, in the hole fine copy.

Kock,C.P.de. - Novels, Tales, Vaudevilles, Reminiscences and Life. Edmond and his Cousin etc. Introd. by J. Claretie. Translated into English by Edith Mary Norris. Boston, Paris, London: The Frederick J. Quinby Company "Printed only for Subscribers" [1904]. 23.5 x 16 cm. With 3 original etchings (1 in colors) and 4 photogravures on plates, each signed and unsigned. In signed and unsigned condition, and ╔2 original pen and ink drawings in the text by William Glackens.╗ Title and book decoration in watercolor pen and ink drawing, partly heightened in gold and silver. 4 pp., 280 pp. Printed on laid paper with watermarks specially made for this edition. ╔Sign. Master binding by "Harcourt Bindery", Boston (MA):╗ Green marocco with Art Nouveau gilding and colored leather inlays with lily motifs, spine with three strong bands; doublure and endpapers covered in red marocco, with inlaid gilding of tulip motifs; gilt top edge, otherwise untrimmed. In half leather slipcase. (Spine faded, minimal cover damage. The first few leaves somewhat finger-stained, margins partly slightly browned). Ex. "E" of 26 copies. - Vol. XX of the Romainville Edition. - One of the few copies of the bibliophile special edition of the works of Ch.-P. de Kock in English translation. The normal edition in 50 volumes was published by the same publisher. The VA was also planned for 50 volumes, but apparently only half of these were published. The volumes are extremely elaborately designed by various artists and printed on specially produced laid paper. - A magnificent example of Art Nouveau binding in the United States. The Harcourt Bindery was founded in Boston in 1900 and still exists today under a different name.
