It features four columns, slightly swollen at the bottom, holding a circular guilloche dial with ring. It is enamelled white with baton hour-markers and Roman numerals for the hours and quarters. Thonissen was a Parisian watchmaker established on rue Mandar between 1806 and 1820, and on rue Comtesse d'Artois from 1830. TETHYS CHARIOT CLOCK, RESTORATION PERIOD (1815-1830) in gilded and patinated bronze; the enamelled dial signed by the watchmaker Ch. Lecomte in Paris, surrounded by a circular bezel knurled with palmettes. Charles Lecomte, clockmaker in Paris, was awarded the title of Master in 1785, and is best known for his bronze pendulum clocks such as the one shown here. The rectangular base in patinated bronze with ½ oval ends rests on six gilded loaf feet; it features a bearded mask on two spectres in a cross between two Siren-tailed horses, ridden by cherubs, with a daisy rosette at each end of the base. The patinated bronze flared bowl rests on a shower foot surrounded by two gilded bronze heads of winged Dolphins, and features a bearded mask on either side, from which a jet of water springs. Circular, gilded bezel, knurled with palmettes and pearls, white dial with black Roman numerals. At the top of the cup, with its gilded gadrooned rim, a seated woman, legs extended, in a kind of seashell-shaped sleigh, holds in her right hand the reindeer of two birds pulling her across the waters. AMOUR ET GLOIRE" CLOCK, EMPIRE PERIOD in gilt bronze; the circular dial with baton hour markers and Roman numerals for the hours and Indian quarter numerals for the minutes, set in a frame of foliage alternating with pearls. It is set in a bollard decorated on the sides, in applique, with antique-style profiles of a man and a woman in a laurel medallion adorned with floral scrolls. On the front, a seated warrior angel holds a shield inscribed with "AMOUR ET GLOIRE" (LOVE AND GLORY). The clock rests on a rectangular doucine base with palm frieze and four "galette" feet. It is surmounted by the attributes of war: helmet, sword, bow and quiver with two doves embracing. With wooden base and glass protection. Matched with a pair of bronze bowls on finely decorated molded marble bases. BREGUET Subscription No. 485 with 18K yellow gold case, made for the Marquis of Bajamar c. 1799. Single-hand clock with white enamel dial, Arabic numerals and 5-minute divisions. Secret signature below 12 o'clock. 61 mm 18K yellow gold case with guilloche decoration and monogram in the center. 36 hour power reserve, ruby cylinder escapement. Movement 25", signed Breguet, smooth brass three-arm balance wheel, with parachute on the upper pivot. In running condition. The chatelaine has a marquis crown and initials on the back. Note : Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) devised the "subscription" watch in 1794. It was one of many "inventions" resulting from his period of forced exile in Switzerland during the French Revolution. The concept was simple and brilliant: to offer. his clients a watch that was paid a quarter in advance and the rest once finished.
