Heavily cast, the monk stands on a lotus pedestal with his hands clasped in prayer in front of him, his head bowed slightly. He wears the heavy roves of a monk falling in thick folds and engraved with floral motifs. With a peaceful expression, his eyes are downcast, and his lobes elongated. Provenance: UK trade. Condition: Good condition with some wear, casting flaws, small losses, and minor dents and nicks. Weight: 1,023 g Dimensions: Height 19 cm Ananda (5th-4th century BC) was the primary attendant of the Buddha and one of his ten principal disciples. Among the Buddha's many disciples, he stood out for having the best memory. Most of the texts of the early Buddhist Sutta-Piṭaka are attributed to his recollection of the Buddha's teachings during the First Buddhist Council.
