NAGATSUKA RYUJI: (1924- ) Japanese Kamikaze. One of the few Kamikaze survivors. Pilot Fighter serving the Royal Japanese air forces in 1945. Nagatsuka became an author after WWII and is best known for his work I was a Kamikaze, translated in multiple languages. A good and lengthy A.L.S., ` Ryugi et Yoko Nagatsuka´, one page, folio, Tokyo, 15th November 1973, to Monsieur Fernand Fossier, in French. The letter is written on his printed stationery in his capacity as literature Professor of the Nihon University in Tokyo. Nagatsuka thanks his French correspondents for the letters received and states in part ` Je souhaite que Florence apprenne le japonais pour être capable de lire mes articles sur George Sand.... ´ (Translation: " I wish Florence would learn Japanese to be able to read my articles on George Sand...") Nagatsuka further refers to the petrol crisis of 1973 and how much it is going to affect Japan, and further refers to war veterans and to survivors of special missions, saying ` Mes anciens camarades de combats, survivants des missions d´attaque spéciale, me renvoient petit à petit les photos signées... Nous parlons très souvent de vous trois ainsi que de Madame Costes...´ (Translation: " My former combat comrades, survivors of the special attack missions, are gradually sending me back the signed photos... We talk very often about the three of you as well as about Madame Costes...") Accompanied by the original envelope, postmarked and stamped. Very small minor corner creases, otherwise VG Dieudonné Costes (1892-1973) French Aviator. Fighter Ace during WWI. Costes performed in 1930 the first Westbound crossing of the North Atlantic, on board the Breguet XIX "Point d´Interrogation".
