Lot 36 - Leonor Fini (1907-1996) - La chambre d'echo Color lithograph, 87 x 102 cm (frame) / 62.5 x 76.5 cm (framed). Signed (in pencil) in lower right corner, numbered (XL/C) in lower left corner. The work is subject to payment droit de suite, the amount of which will be added to the auctioned price. Payment of the droit de suite is the responsibility of the purchaser. * Leonor Fini - Argentine-Italian painter. She was born on August 30, 1907 in Buenos Aires, in a family with international roots (her father was Italian, her mother had German-Slavic roots, born in Italy). She grew up in Trieste, her mother's hometown, and at the age of 17 moved first to Milan, then to Paris, where she quickly found herself in artistic and intellectual circles. She met Salvador Dali, Paul Éluard, Max Ernst, Pablo Picasso and Henri Cartier-Bresson, among others, with whom she traveled throughout Europe. These acquaintances had a significant impact on her work, and she is often referred to as a Surrealist painter (although she herself did not necessarily identify with this label). Her work invariably has a highly symbolic dimension, often personal and somewhat theatrical in nature. She was fascinated by the female body, sexuality - her own personal life and relationships, by the way, have passed into legend*. She painted portraits of many representatives of the Parisian elite - intellectuals, artists, celebrities. She collaborated with fashion designers - her flare for Elsa Schiaparelli's brand became an icon of the company; she designed costumes and decorations for theatrical, opera, ballet performances and even films. She also illustrated the works of great writers and poets, including Shakespeare and Baudelaire, and wrote several novels herself. * She was strongly associated with the Polish community in Paris. From 1941, she was involved with Italian aristocrat and diplomat Stanislao Lepri. But in 1952 in Rome she met Konstanty Kot Jelenski, a Polish writer and publicist. Soon all three moved in together in a house in Paris, where they led an intensive social and artistic life. Fini also became, to a large extent, the godmother of the success of the Parisian Lambert Gallery - at Jelenski's urging, she provided Kazimir Romanowicz with a list of her contacts - from art dealers to collectors, celebrities to art critics. Leonor Fini died in Paris, January 18, 1996.

Lot 45 - Sławomir Mieleszko (1938-2021) - Forest II, 1997 oil on canvas, 59.5 x 60.5 cm/ 50 x 60 cm Signed and dated in lower right corner. Inscribed on the back: artist's details, title, technique. The painting comes from the collection of the artist's heirs. The work is subject to payment droit de suite, the amount of which will be added to the auctioned price. Payment of droit de suite is the responsibility of the buyer. * Slawomir Andrzej Mieleszko - sculptor, painter, university lecturer. He was born on April 30, 1938 in the village of Novy Swierzhenie, Novogrudok province (today's Belarus). He came from a family with an exceptionally long and glorious history, dating back to before the founding of the Jagiellonian dynasty: one of his ancestors, John Mieleszko, was a direct descendant of Gediminas, and was in the post going with the matchmakers from Jagiello to Jadwiga. Further fate of the family was invariably connected with Polish history. In 1939, the artist's parents, threatened with deportation, managed to escape from the approaching Soviet army: warned by railroad workers, they left on the last transport in the direction of Warsaw. They settled in a forester's lodge near Zambrow, where they hid a Jewish family. In 1946, the family settled near Lublin. In 1957 Slawomir Mieleszko began his studies at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznan, at the Department of Sculpture. He received his diploma in the studio of Prof. Basil Wojtowicz in 1963. After graduation, the artist settled first in Świdnik, then in Lublin. In 1975 he took a job at the Institute of Artistic Education of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, of which he was co-founder and later director for many years. He worked at the university until the 2000s, as a professor in the Department of Monumental Sculpture. Prof. Slawomir Mieleszko is the author of several hundred sculptures, including outdoor sculptures and monumental monuments commemorating events in Polish history. These include: Tyszowce Confederation Monument (Tyszowce, 1964), Partisans Monument (Tomaszow Lubelski, 1966), Children of the Zamojszczyzna Monument (Lublin, 1969), Victory Monument (Radzyń Podlaski, 1970), Monument "To the Glory of the Polish Soldier" (Świdnik, 1975), Monument to the Martyrdom of the Lublin Jews ( Lublin, 1985), Monument to Tadeusz Kosciuszko (Chelm, 1982). In the 1990s, the artist also turned to painting. His works are dominated on the one hand by idyllic landscapes, referring to the tradition of Polish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries, and on the other by Jewish portraits. Their genesis can be traced back to the family's wartime history - perhaps Slawomir, who was a few years old at the time, retained vague memories of the war period, when the family risked their lives giving shelter to Jews. Undoubtedly, stories from that time were repeated many times in the family circle, especially since after the war the artist's mother wanted to be awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal - but she refused to accept it, arguing that she didn't help for awards, but out of a spur of the heart and a sense of decency. What's more, the family lived in Lublin - a city with a very significant Jewish community before the war. After the war, therefore, a void remained, filled only by the ghostly neighborhood of the grounds of the former Majdanek concentration camp. The anonymous portraits of Hasidic Jews, devoid of any anecdotal elements, as if hanging in the void, are perhaps a gallery of these non-existent people who inhabited Lublin before the war. On the other hand, the dark portraits of tragic figures - a weeping child, a woman in rags, a girl with sunken cheeks - allude without a shadow of a doubt to wartime dramas. War themes, moreover, form a bridge between the artist's paintings and his sculptural work. We find them not only in monumental monuments, but also in smaller forms, such as the bronze reliefs presented at the auction (No. 29 War and No. 30 Children of the Warsaw Ghetto). Slawomir Mieleszko has presented his works at several dozen solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions. He was the winner of numerous prizes and awards in sculpture competitions. He has also been awarded numerous prizes and decorations, including the Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art for lifetime achievement, the Knight's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland, and the medal of the Minister of National Education. Slawomir Mieleszko died on May 13, 2021 in Warsaw.

Lot 61 - Igor Panczuk (ur. 1981) - Girl, 2022 Oil on canvas, 90 х 90 cm Signed in lower right corner. * Igor Panchuk (1981-) is a Ukrainian surrealist artist, painter and graphic designer. He was born in the village of Grycenki, Krasilovsky district, Khmelnytsky region. He studied at the Lviv Academy of Fine Arts, after which he moved to Poland, where he lived for eight years. In December 2021, when tensions in the information space began to rise and it became clear that war was inevitable, the artist decided to return to Ukraine and settled in Lviv. Central to the artist's work is the human figure. The artist's early, realistically interpreted portraits are characterized by attempts to capture the psychology of the portrayed figure, a specific life story, the emotional state of the person at a specific time, at a specific moment captured on canvas. Over time, his figures are transformed into fantastic, anthropomorphic beings. By changing the natural shape of the body, the artist tries to maximize the emotional message. He distorts proportions, increases the number of arms, complicates angles, tightens poses and emphasizes gesture. Some parts are painted in detail, down to the smallest bone and muscle, others are generalized, retreated into shadow, wrapped in drapery, faces are covered with masks and take on strange zoomorphic features. Carnality in the interpretation of Igor Panchuk acquires a new meaning, the plot is full of tension and drama. With the outbreak of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the artist did not stop painting. He then created a series of paintings "24" (dated February 24, 2022). This is a series of works in large format (140 x 100 cm or 200 x 150 cm), in which the artist allegorically evokes the nightmare of war. Panchuk's works are presented at charity exhibitions and auctions, with proceeds from their sale going to the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and citizens affected by the war.

Lot 62 - Kateryna Biletina (ur. 1977) - Girl in a red and white wreath, 2021 Oil on canvas, 20 х 15.5 cm, signed on the back. * Kateryna Biletina - painter, author of book illustrations. Among connoisseurs of contemporary art she is known primarily as a portrait painter, author of the painting project "Ukrainian Portrait", historical portraits - reconstructions, such as "Young Lesia Ukrainka", "Young Ivan Franko", "Portrait of Roman Shuchevych". In 2011, she created a portrait of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko titled. "The President in an Embroidered Shirt." In 2016, the publishing house "Rodowid" published her book "Vulnerability to Beauty". - an album with reconstructions of folk costumes from different parts of Ukraine. The idea of creating a gallery of Ukrainian faces appeared in 2004, during the Orange Revolution. For 15 years, Kateryna has painted more than 200 contemporary portraits, using details of folk costumes, which, according to the artist, give the painting a special aesthetic clarity. Kateryna travels a lot in Ukraine, meeting people and painting their portraits in folk costumes. The beauty of folk costumes, their aesthetically perfect composition combined with the face of a modern person create a new image in which the person depicted appears as if magically reincarnated. Folk costumes blur the line between the present and the past. The artist's paintings are in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, the USA, North Korea and the Netherlands. The artist lives and works in Odessa.

Lot 100 - Richard Jeranian (1921-2019) - Untitled Print on paper, 79 x 60 cm (in frame). Signed in lower right corner, numbered 99/100 in lower left corner. The work is subject to payment droit de suite, the amount of which will be added to the auctioned price. Payment of the droit de suite is the responsibility of the buyer. * Richard Jeranian - Armenian painter, illustrator, lithographer, active in France. He was born on July 17, 1921 in Sebaste (then Ottoman Empire) and died on October 10, 2019 in Paris. His family left Turkey in 1930 and settled first in a refugee camp in Marseille, then in Pont Saint Esprit, where his father - a literature professor - found employment in a ceramic tile factory. Richard's talent manifested itself early and he took his first steps in the world of painting as a teenager, supported by the painter Sarkissian, a family neighbor. He later went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Marseille, where he was invariably inspired by the landscapes of Provence. However, the development of his career is interrupted by the war. Richard, responsible for his family - his brothers were sent to the front - takes a job in an auto repair shop. He observes persecution - which he experienced in his early childhood as an Armenian in Turkey - and drama. Eventually, at the end of 1944, he is mobilized in the ranks of the Air Force, while still stateless. He is sent to Algiers, then to Fez in Morocco; he will remain there until 1946. This is also the beginning of his numerous travels around the world. In 1947 he returns to Paris, where he meets Alice Kavoukdzian, a young Armenian whose family came from Istanbul and was related to the great poet Zahrad. Two years later they marry, and Alice will be his muse for the rest of her life. It was also she, gifted with an astute artistic sense, who encouraged him to have his first gallery exhibitions. In the 1950s, the artist travels extensively, especially to Iran and Lebanon, which would become his gateway to a great career, but also have a huge impact on his work. With his exhibitions in Beirut's first galleries, Jéranian very quickly became a pioneer of Lebanese painting, so much so that he was considered a Lebanese artist. He befriended painters of the younger generation, and maintained close relations with the presidents of the Republic of Lebanon Charles Hélou and Fouhad Chéhab. He enjoyed similar success in Iran, where he exhibited in the galleries of Tehran. He even became a protégé of the Empress of Iran. He also made numerous trips to his native Armenia, thus becoming a link between Armenia, Iran, Lebanon and France. He has received many awards and decorations for his work, in which various influences are mixed. His works are part of private and public collections, including permanent exhibitions at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and the National Art Gallery of Armenia, among others.
