He offered it to Steve Ray Vaughan, who was very sympathetic to the Native American cause. Vaughan used it during the Soul to Soul tour at the Pori Jazz Festival on July 11, 1985 in Kirjurinluoto (afternoon concert), Finland: he played it between the sound check and the start of the concert. Guitarist Dick Dale then bought the guitar from SRV. When SRV and Dale recorded Pipe Line together in 1987, Vaughan took the guitar back and autographed it. In 1988, SRV gave the instrument to Donald Beaty Wirz, brother of Charley Wirz (the guitarist's mentor and owner of Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas), who sold it in 1999 to a Canadian collector, from whom its current owner inherited it.
