Hand-bound original half-leather with metal clasp and nailed metal band over wooden boards and OL linen, together in oak case with metal edge protectors and multi-part nailed, partly colored and richly pierced replica of a Salian decorative plate. The exquisitely decorated illuminated manuscripts from the Echternach scriptorium are world-famous. One of these treasures is now a well-guarded gem in the manuscript department of the Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique in Brussels: the Echternach Evangelistary, a magnificent manuscript from the time of the Salian emperors ... The lid of the casket contains an elaborate replica of a bone carving with ornately pierced, partially painted decorative panels. This work of art, which is now kept in the Archabbey of St. Peter in Salzburg, adorns the cover of a 12th-century gospel book from the Salian period and thus provides a suitable cover for the Echternach Gospel Lectionary (publisher's advertisement).
