A ‘BIRD AND MELON’ CERAMIC WALL VASE, QING DYNASTY A ‘BIRD AND MELON’ CERAMIC WALL VASE, QING DYNASTY China, 1644-1912. Finely molded as a bird perched on two melons hanging from a leafy branch, backed by a blue glazed vase, the bird and melons in shades of brown, cream, and yellow, the back unglazed and with an aperture for suspension. Provenance: From the estate of Phillip Allen (1938-2022), who was a widely respected collector and expert of Chinese ceramics and works of art as well as a director of the Oriental Ceramic Society for many years. He co-authored and edited several exhibition catalogues for the OCS and was best known as the cataloguer of the Sir Victor Sassoon collection of Chinese ivories in the British Museum. Condition: With minor wear, small chips to exposed areas, and firing flaws including firing cracks. The bird reattached and with associated small losses to the foot and minor chips, presenting very well. Weight: 651 g Dimensions: Height 17 cm
