Haitangzun vase; China, second third of the twentieth century. Gilded and enameled copper. Measurements: 38 x 22 x 22 x 22 cm. Haitangzun vases are named after the Begonia flower, a traditional floral motif consistently used in different categories of Chinese decorative art. It is formed by lobed sections with a concave neck and a reverse floral border on a low flared foot. In this particular case the two pieces feature the same design with lotus and tendril decoration, peonies and ruyi.
