Description

JUAN OLIVEIRA VIÉITEZ (Tuy, 1928 - Vigo, 2002). "Horse". Bronze sculpture, P.A. copy. Signed and justified. Measurements: 40 x 54 x 23 cm (sculpture); 3 x 40 x 24 cm (marble base). Round sculpture representing a galloping horse. The piece stands out for the great expressiveness that the artist achieves by molding the gesture of an animal that stands out for its dignity and magnificence in the pose. Joan José de Oliveira specialized, throughout his career, in animal sculpture, focusing especially on figures of bulls and horses. He dedicated himself to art late in life, especially in his 40s, but he achieved considerable public and critical success, and his large-format works are currently found in important public spaces in many Galician cities, Madrid, Guadalajara, Menorca and elsewhere. Some of his most important pieces can be seen in Vigo, in the Plaza de España, or in his hometown, Tuy. His work is always extremely expressive, figurative, but with synthetic forms, where the author seeks to reproduce movement, emotion, dynamism, rather than anatomical details, which he sometimes simplifies or, conversely, exaggerates, in order to convey the emotion he is looking for.
