BELLINCIONI Gemma (1864 - 1950) BELLINCIONI Gemma (1864 - 1950) OPERA - BELLINCIONI Gemma (1864 - 1950) - Autograph letter signed Autograph letter signed, dated “Napoli 24 Ott.bre 1935 XIII”by the Italian dramatic soprano. She had a particular affinity with the verismo repertoire and was renowned more for her charismatic acting than for the quality of her voice. On 17 May 1890, she created the role of Santuzza in Pietro Mascagni's landmark verismo work Cavalleria Rusticana when it premiered in Rome. Her common-law spouse Roberto Stagno, a prominent tenor from Sicily, sang opposite her in the role of Turiddu at that same premiere performance: they had met on a tour of Argentina in 1886. Addressed to a friend, concerning her daughter the soprano Bianca Stagno Bellincioni: “…Bianca mi scrive dicendomi quanto cortese interesse lei prende perché essa possa riuscire a lavorare ! Caro amico, io mi raccomando anche a lei perché tutto quello che farà per mia figlia, sarà un favore speciale anche per me personalmente. Bianca è un’artista e sono certa sarà nuovamente un vero acquisto per la nostra arte del Cinema che ha molto bisogno di nuove reclute…”. 1 p. In-8. - This item is under temporary import.
