In addition to the original German text, the translation into Latin by J.F.C Hecker has been added. - First published in 1808 (collaboration between Reißeisen and S. Th. Soemmering. Both authors had produced illustrations, but these were not published due to the Napoleonic Wars. Reißeisen's illustrations appeared for the first time in the present work, while Soemmering's remained unpublished. - Some browning due to paper, 1 leaf with small backed spot in white margin, some pale (foxing) spotting (mainly in margins). Overall extremely well-preserved, wide-margined and untrimmed copy with carefully colored plates in fresh colors. Medicine - With 6 hand colored copper engraved plates. Sheets loosely inserted in mod. cloth case with mounted part of probably orig. wrapper on cover, label on spine. - With splendid plates illustrating the fine structure of the lungs. - First illustrated edition.
