Group of two Japanese jindai keyaki chasaku tea scoops with inscribed wooden boxes, Edo to Meiji period. The inscription along the lid of the smaller box reads, "jindai keyaki tea scoop"; there is also a second inscription along the interior of the lid that reads, "the jindai keyaki (ancient zelkova tree) was excavated underwater downstream of the Tenjin river and is estimated to be about 300 years old." Further inscribed along the lid and along the interior surface of the lid. Keywords: chanoyu, tea ceremony (Smallest) Spoon; length: 7 1/2 in. Box; height: 8 1/2 x width: 1in x depth: 1 in.
