Large album of photographs of Egypt and Lebanon, followed by photos of the Alhambra. Circa 1870-1880. 30.5 by 24.5 cm. 52 sheets. Some sixty photos. Most photos have a minimum format of 24 by 17 cm. Some of the photos are signed: Fiorillo (Luigi Fiorillo, 1847-1898), an Italian photographer based in Alexandria. Others by Garzòn (Rafael Garzòn), Bonfils (Félix Bonfils, 1831-1885), Zangaki (the Zangaki brothers), Hippolyte Arnoux, Frères Rubellin (photographers based in Smyrna),... 10 photos of the Alhambra by Garzòn, 2 identified photos by Rubellin (stamps on verso). Views of Cairo, very fine photos of mummies, photos of the port of Beirut, Port-Saïd, very fine photos of the pyramids, animated or posed photos of street characters, etc. Full period black percaline, muted. VERY NICE PAINTING "MME À LA PEINTURE" by Edmé Emile LABORNE (1837-1913) Pastel on paper, signed lower right, framed under glass. Size: 62.5 x 35 cm (view) A former student at the Lycée Henri-IV in Paris, Edmé-Émile Laborne wrote a thesis for his law degree in 1859, entitled Du louage d'ouvrage et d'industrie. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under marine painter Jules Noël and painter Eugène Lacoste. He exhibited at the Salon from 1865 to 1890. A painter of urban views and landscapes, his favorite subjects were the Normandy coast and the Loire Valley. His beach and harbor landscapes are similar to those of Eugène Boudin. The posthumous sale of his studio took place at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris on December 19, 1927. On this occasion, the Journal des débats politiques et littéraires wrote on December 15, 1927: "[...] a consummate colorist, he added to a real accuracy of vision a real gift for rendering the various effects of light. In his compositions of dense ensembles, there is not a detail, or even a point of scenery, that escapes him, and he excels, moreover, in rendering every movement, attitude and physiognomy5[...]".

Date: 19th century Description: Duvivier's view shows above all the decay in the characteristic remains of Hohbarr Castle: broken edges of crumbling masonry overgrown by lush greenery in a rural setting. Built around 1100, the medieval castle above Saverne in what is now the French department of Bas-Rhin was built on sandstone cliffs 460 m above the valley of Zorn and the plain of Alsace. and underwent extensions and alterations at various times by the bishops of Strasbourg. In the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War, the castle was razed to the ground.
