Date: 19th century Description: Duvivier's view shows above all the decay in the characteristic remains of Hohbarr Castle: broken edges of crumbling masonry overgrown by lush greenery in a rural setting. Built around 1100, the medieval castle above Saverne in what is now the French department of Bas-Rhin was built on sandstone cliffs 460 m above the valley of Zorn and the plain of Alsace. and underwent extensions and alterations at various times by the bishops of Strasbourg. In the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War, the castle was razed to the ground.
