A 19TH CENTURY FRENCH BLACK SLATE MANTEL CLOCK WITH PERPETUAL CALENDAR WORK the rectangular breakfront case with glazed brass door enclosing engraved gilt brass masked dials, the white enamel clock dial with Roman chapter ring and recessed centre with visible Brocot escapement fronting an eight-day spring-driven movement with anchor escapement striking the hours/half hours on a bell; the lower case with Perpetual Calendar Dial having moonphase aperture within a year calendar above subsidiary dials for days, date and leap year. (46cm high ) The case has minor chips to the top mould, also some chips to the front right side next to the brass door and also left front corner of the base. There is a piece of marble missing to the bottom left corner of the brass door. No chips or cracks to the dials. The marble back door has been cracked and reglued. The movement is clean and is running but not striking so will require some attension. The calendar mechanism is complete.
