Trained by Carrier-Belleuse, one of the most talented artists of the 19th century, Paillet worked for the Manufacture de Sèvres between 1879 and 1888, when his mentor was appointed Directeur des Travaux d'Art. Fernand Paillet left his name in jewelry history thanks to his particularly strong collaboration with jeweler Frédéric Boucheron. Decorating brooches, bracelets and necklace-watches, Fernand Paillet put his signature on numerous pieces made by Boucheron, particularly around 1908, as illustrated by a watch similar to this one in the reference book "Boucheron, le joaillier du temps". Fernand Paillet decorated watches for a number of watchmakers, including Ferdinand Verger and the American jeweler Marcus & Co, whose collection at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore includes an example of Paillet's style.
