GATELEG TABLE, STAMPED "CANABAS" FOR JOSEPH GENGENBACH (1715-1797), LOUIS XVI PERIOD in mahogany; the column base is joined by a spacer belt; it has two flaps and the top opens to two flaps. Jurande hallmark (Restoration to a corner of the top, some scratches) A Gateleg mahogany table stamped "Canabas" for Joseph Gengenbach, Louis XVI period, 18th century height 73 - width 73 - depth 65 CM - H. 28,7 - W. 28,7 - D. 25,6 IN. Joseph Gengenbach, known as "CANABAS", was a cabinetmaker who received his master's degree in 1766. Canabas is one of the few cabinetmakers to use mahogany almost exclusively. Indeed, the use of mahogany in cabinetmaking became widespread in France from the 1760s, notably in workshops such as that of Jean-François Oeben.
