FONTAINEBLEAU GOGOTTE Gogotte: Sandstone concretion of siliceous sand resulting from the displacement of phreatic liquid (saturated water dissolving silica) leading to the phenomenon of gresification, which gives gogottes their unusual appearance. Dating on the geological time scale (fossiliferous) probably Lower Oligocene -(33-28 mA) Attractive specimen presented on a well-proportioned base. Gogotte, Fontainebleau, probably from the Lower Oligocene (33-28 million years) Total weight : 48 K 5 g. - Total weight : 1 710,78 OZ/106,9 lbs HEIGHT 66 CM - H. 26 IN. This mineral specimen is not subject to regulation under the Washington Convention (CITES), European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, or the French Environment Code. These marvellous natural sculptures, prized since the 17th century, were used in the gardens of the Château de Versailles, notably in the garden of the three fountains. Today, they are the pride of internationally renowned museums such as the Smithsonian Institution, the British Museum of Natural History, the Orleans Museum and others.
