This rectangular, slightly domed box is made of Caret tortoiseshell veneer on all sides, with rectangular tortoiseshell moldings on the lid. Each corner is decorated with fan-shaped plaques featuring flowering branches and birds. The domed top of the box is adorned with an oval medallion of the same design. A pull ring and rosette open the box. The keyhole is in a cartouche. Inside, at the bottom, a color engraving depicting Aurora and Cephalus, reflected in a mirror under the lid.
