Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (Japanese, 1839 - 1892) color woodblock print "Emperor Takakura," 1880, a triptych from "A Short Illustrated History of Japan" series of ten prints depicting famous stories and events from the history of Japan. The scene depicts the great warrior Taira no Shigemori paying a visit to his father, Kiyomori, in an attempt to prevent him from imprisoning Emperor Takakura. Note: Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a Japanese printmaker. Yoshitoshi has widely been recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo-e genre of woodblock printing and painting. He is also regarded as one of the form's greatest innovators. Dimensions: 13 3/4 x 28 1/4 in., (35 x 72 cm.) Very good.
