EMPIRE STYLE CLOCK After Claude Galle (1759-1815) In chased and gilded bronze, the white enamelled dial bearing a signature "Galle/ Rue Vivienne à Paris/ Thomas Hger", inscribed in a milestone flanked by a figure of Apollo playing the lyre, the base adorned with a bas-relief illustrating Apollo's chariot drawn by four horses among clouds, the claw feet H.:72 cm (28 ¼ in.) l.:48 cm (18 ¾ in.) An Empire style gilt-bronze mantel-clock, after Claude Galle (1759-1815) A clock of the same model, the dial signed "Lepaute et Fils", is kept in the collections of the Pitti Palace in Florence. PAIR OF EMPIRE PERIOD TORCHES Based on a model by Claude Galle (1759-1815) In chased and gilded bronze, the canted shaft ends in claw feet, resting on a circular base encircled by a frieze of water-leaf motifs. H.:26,5 cm (10 ½ in.) Comparative bibliography: V. Drouget, Fontainebleau La Vraie Demeure des Rois, Swan éditeur, 2015, p.260. A pair of Empire gilt and bronze candlesticks, after the model by Claude Galle (1759-1815) Three pairs of comparable torches were delivered by Claude Galle to Fontainebleau in 1804 and 1805 (inv. F626, F674 and F1165C). One of these pairs is now preserved in the Emperor's small bedroom at the Château de Fontainebleau (cfr. V. Drouget, Fontainebleau La Vraie Demeure des Rois, Swan éditeur, 2015, p.260).

A pair of Empire gilt and patinated bronze candlesticks, attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815) This pair of torches is of the same type as the three pairs delivered by Claude Galle to the Château de Fontainebleau between 1804 and 1805 (cf. J.P. Samoyault, "Pendules et Bronzes d'Ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire", Musée National de Fontainebleau, Paris, 1989, p. 193, fig. 179). In 1807, one pair was in the Emperor's second salon, while the other two were in Empress Josephine's salon.
