A pair of Empire gilt and patinated bronze candlesticks, attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815) This pair of torches is of the same type as the three pairs delivered by Claude Galle to the Château de Fontainebleau between 1804 and 1805 (cf. J.P. Samoyault, "Pendules et Bronzes d'Ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire", Musée National de Fontainebleau, Paris, 1989, p. 193, fig. 179). In 1807, one pair was in the Emperor's second salon, while the other two were in Empress Josephine's salon.
