Description

Francesco Zanin, um 1824 – 1884 Venedig

IDEAL PARK LANDSCAPE WITH PALAZZO IN THE BACKGROUND Oil on canvas. Doubled. 64 x 133 cm. In gilded carved frame. The landscape in landscape format shows in the foreground, like a stage, a headland bordered by a wall with a doorway, where there are hunting dogs alongside numerous figures, from children to a couple of ladies and a clergyman in conversation with a man. On the right at the edge of the picture is a Chinese pagoda behind trees, on the left a larger park with a small monopteros and sculptures, and in the background a grand and extensive palazzo building. The present painting does not show a view of Venice, but of the mainland, to which the noble Venetians liked to retreat during the summer, and probably also alludes to this context. Zanin is one of the most important representatives of historicizing veduta painting in the 18th century style in Italy. From 1851, he was a student at the Academy in the landscape painting department, led by Francesco Baguara. In 1869, he was represented at the Academy's annual exhibition with his painting "Il Ponte della Pazienza con La Chiesa dell Carmine", dated 1856, which probably launched his career, which lasted until the end of the 1880s.
