Scène de banquet princier

Safavid Iran, mid-16th century Miniature mounted on an album page painted with gouache and gold. Condition: Chipping, paper folds and a few repaints. Miniature size: 14.5 x 9 cm Scene probably taken from a manuscript illustrating the Book of Kings (shahnameh), featuring a prince enthroned and holding a book in his hands. His stewards present him with a variety of refined dishes, such as wine and dishes in the foreground. Provenance : Public sale, Sotheby's, October 28, 2009, n°167.

Diameter of the miniature: 7.6 cm TTB for the miniature. Box hooping to be reassembled. Anonymous work, possibly made in the Malmaison gardens by someone close to Queen Hortense. Hortense is known to have played stringed instruments.
