Beautiful fragment of a bowl base with minaï decoration of three figures Siliceous paste with polychrome and gold minai decoration Iran, 12th - 13th century Diameter 13.5 cm This polychrome "petit feu" or minaï decoration is a technique used in Iran in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, allowing for a broader palette than the usual ceramic techniques. The decoration depicts a haloed figure on a throne topped by two birds, surrounded by two attendants. A quadruped can be seen in the lower part. A frieze of stars surrounds the main scene.
