Description

[PRÉVERT]. ORIGINAL COLLAGE BY JACQUES PRÉVERT. Black-and-white photograph (174 X 238 mm) with "Photo Michel Cot" stamp on verso + paper folder. BEAUTIFUL COMPOSITION ON A PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTING adorned with color cut-outs of characters. At the top of the photograph, Prévert writes in black felt-tip pen: "Fontaine des 4 saisons" (Fountain of the 4 seasons). Is this an allusion to Edme Bouchardon's 18th-century fountain on rue de Grenelle? The collage is housed in a paper folder with the words "Laissez passer / Simon" painted in black on the front cover; Jacques Prévert's signature, also in black paint at the bottom of the photo, has protruded onto the folder's 3rd page. This is said to be the copy of the French writer Claude SIMON (1913-2005): the two writers knew and liked each other. It was Prévert who arranged for Claude Simon to meet Picasso in Antibes in the summer of 1956.
