PAVLOWSKY (Jacqueline). BOOK-OBJET entitled AH!... Paris, 1965-1967 [Mentions pasted on the 3rd leaf on an envelope addressed to Mme Jacqueline Pavlowsky / 46 rue Madame / Paris 6e]. Large folio (45 X 29 cm) of 34 double sheets. IMPORTANT COLLECTION COMPOSED OF 33 ORIGINAL full-page COLLAGES pasted on ochre paper, 25 of which are very lavish. The artist has glued her printed signature "jacqueline pavlowsky" at the bottom of the last leaf. These collages are similar to those in the artist's 1967 series of medical-veterinary collages and hospital drawings. ATTACHED: 2 folio notebooks of kraft paper (8 pages each) with only the 1st page of each notebook illustrated with a collage: the 1st, depicting a young woman at the wheel of a car, with the text "rapidement votre vie prend sa retraite" ("quickly your life retires") is an allusion to a dramatic episode in the artist's life. Jacqueline PAVLOWSKY (1921-1971), born in Vincennes to Russian and Polish Jewish parents who had emigrated to France, turned to painting in her thirties while studying chemistry. She met the painter Serge POLIAKOFF (1900-1969) in the early 1950s, and maintained a close friendship with him until his death. From 1961, she was a regular participant in avant-garde salons, notably the Salon des réalités nouvelles. A car accident in 1966 left her with serious after-effects and forced her to rest. She committed suicide in 1971 after learning of her daughter's death.
