Seventh volume in the Rougon-Macquart series. Edition with the same date as the original and with the correct collation, but with a 14th edition on the title. Last blank page not preserved. Autograph signed letter from Emile Zola, "to George Bastard, his devoted colleague". G. Bastard (1861-1914), historian and publicist, was notably the founder of the Gazette illustrée. Provenance: G. Bastard (ex-dono); Panos Gratsos (Greek shipowner, coll. sold in 1981, Sotheby's: ex-libris). (Carteret II, 481).

First edition. Signed autograph letter from Émile Zola "to Paul Robiquet, his devoted colleague". Paul Robiquet (1848-1929) was a lawyer and historian. (Carteret II, 488).
