Spotting and rubbing to binding, heavy foxing. FIRST EDITION. Illustrated with 50 vignettes in the text by Tony Johannot, wood-engraved by Porret. "One of the most successful of the Romantic books, and at last beginning to be much sought-after. The cover is extremely rare, most copies having been sold in publisher's cloth boards with labels on the spine.
