[MEDICINE]. DECHAMBRE (A.). ENCYCLOPEDIC DICTIONARY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES. P., Masson et fils, Asselin, 1869-89. One hundred volumes in-8, bronze-green half-chagrin, ivy-green chagrined cloth boards decorated with cold frames, ribbed spines, cold-bound caissons, gilt title (publisher's binding). Spidermaps and rubbing, wetness on the first 200 pages and on the 1st cover of vol. 63, top cover of vol. 39 and bottom cover of vol. 93 partly torn off, vols. 66 to 71, which come from another series, have a "14 to 19" heading, but with the correct alphabetical lettering. COMPLETE EDITION in 100 volumes of this MONUMENTAL WORK on the medical and natural sciences, published over 25 years (1864-1889). Amédée DECHAMBRE (1822-1886) directed the publication of this encyclopedia until 1885; struck by apoplexy and feeling his end approaching, he appointed Léon LEREBOULLET (1842-1914) as his successor to complete this vast undertaking. This work contains numerous articles by THE MOST FAMEBOLD SCIENTISTS OF THE TIME, and is illustrated with woodcut sketches and paintings. ¶ Garrison & Morton, 6801: "Includes a great number of articles written by the best-known French medical men of the period."
