Dürer, Albrecht (1471 Nuremberg 1528). The Holy Family with the Dragonfly (formerly with the Grasshopper. Engraving on laid paper about 1495. 23.8 x 18.6 cm. With the monogr. lower center. With narrow margin around the framing line, mounted in passep. Bartsch 44. Meder 42 a-b (of k). SMS 2nd - Brilliant, atmospheric early impression, deep black, finely drawing, with much ridge, especially left and right of Mary and in the landscape. - The first engraving that Dürer marked with a monogram, here still in Gothic letters. - With the slit above Mary's head, the small cross next to Mary's right temple clearly visible. - Restored in places, upper and lower left as well as some of the outermost margins almost invisibly feathered and framing line redrawn in places and small addition to the upper right corner. Verso with remnants of old mounts. D

Verso further inscription: "Copie fehlt bei Heller". Date: 18th century Description: Reverse copy with Dürer's monogram and date. Inscribed "AD" lower left, inscribed "1511" on the right. The image corresponds to sheet 11 from Dürer's engraved Passion, which was created between 1507 and 1512. This copy is very accurate, but does not match Dürer's precision in detail. In addition, the panel "INRI" differs in that there is a clear space in the centre.
