A LARGE PAIR OF THAI SILVER BETEL BOXES Chiang Mai, first half 20th Century, e ach of tapering broadly cylindrical form upon four tubular feet with an incurved base, the sides with embossed decoration in the Burmese manner of kinnara, within shaped vignettes, interspersed with foliate scroll panels and further kinnari, all below a band of rosette half-lozenges, the lift-off domed lids with an embossed scene of seated figures sharing libations, a caparisoned elephant behind them, all within a shaped cartouche reserved with foliate scrolls, the feet each with an applied chased eagle, the underside chased with a basketweave pattern.
