KOSSUTH LAJOS: (1802-1894) Hungarian nobleman and statesman who served as Governor-President of Hungary during the revolution of 1848-49. An excellent A.L.S., ` L. Kossuth´, one page, small 4to, Kutahya, Turkey, 7th May 185?, to Mr. Henry A. Homes, in Constantinople, in English. Kossuth lived in Kutahya several years in the 1850´s after getting the Ottoman authorities acceptance of his asylum request. This private and confidential letter to his British correspondent is a hidden request to forward two more important letters which Kossuth fears they could be intercepted by his ennemies, stating in part ` Dear Sir, Besides my official letter, you receive together with this, I take the liberty to pray you most humbly by these my confidential lines that you may be pleased to see delivered the two letters here joined in a sure manner to the own hands of Monsieur Lemmi and resp. Mr. Nyujto. Should you not know yourself where they are staying, Mr Vay can inform you of...´ Overall age wear, mostly to borders, and creasing.
