[EINSTEIN ALBERT] (1879-1955) - FLEISCHMANN TRUDE (1895-1990)

[EINSTEIN ALBERT] (1879-1955) German-born theoretical physicist, Nobel Prize winner for Physics, 1921. FLEISCHMANN TRUDE (1895-1990) Austrian-born American photographer, a notable society photographer in Vienna during the 1920s who later re-established her business in New York in 1940. A good original vintage 7.75 x 9.75 photograph of Einstein by Fleischmann, the silver gelatin print depicting the physicist in an appealing half-length pose, casually dressed and with long, slightly unkempt hair. In one hand Einstein holds his beloved pipe. Signed by Fleischmann with her name alone to the lower left edge, the signature very indistinct and across a dark area. With two wet stamps to the verso, each crediting Fleischmann and with her New York City address, and a contemporary ink annotation dating the photograph to 1945 or 1946. Some very light, minor surface and corner creasing and a few small marks to the image and with a few very minor stains to the verso. About VG Despite having given up smoking three years prior to the present photograph, at the request of his physician Dr. Rudolf Ehrmann, Einstein continued to carry a pipe, as can be seen in the image.
