ELUARD PAUL: (1895-1952)

ELUARD PAUL: (1895-1952) French Poet, widely considered one of the founders of the surrealist movement. A very good A.L.S., ` Paul Eluard´, one page, to a postcard photograph, n.p., 27th August, n.y., to Monsieur A. J. Gonon, Vichy, in French. To the front, the postcard shows a photograph of the "salle des Pas pedus" ("Hall of the lost Steps") at the Palace of the Dukes of Aquitaine in Poitiers. Eluard refers to his trip on board of a ship and comments on his prompt return, stating ` Nous rentrons et je compte bien qu´aussitôt ton arrivée dans la capitale, tu nous téléphones...´ (Translation: " We return and I hope that as soon as you will reach the capital, you will call us...") Further Eluard concludes with a statement regarding friendship, saying ` La vie sans ses amis, vois-tu, c´est dur; on en a si peu!...´ (Translation: " Life without your friends, you know, it´s hard; we have so few...") Eluad adds a post-scriptum to the upper left corner saying ` As-tu reçu la "photo" d´un groupe où je suis à l´honneur et m´as-tu reconnu?´ (Translation: " Have you received the "photograph" of a group oof people honouring me, have you recognized me?") VG Aristide Jules Gonon, French Parisian Editor in Montmartre. A close friend of Eluard.
