COPPEE FRANCOIS: (1842-1908) French poet and novelist. A.L.S., Francois Coppee, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d. ( 'Mercredi soir'), to [Charles-Marie] Widor, in French. Coppee states that, in his distant youth, he was a clerk at the Ministry of War, explaining 'Or, parmi les eleves du concours de piano, se trouve le fils d'un de mes anciens camarades' (Translation: 'Now, one of the students in the piano competition is the son of an old friend of mine') and further remarking 'Vous etes du Jury. Veuillez donc retenir, sans injsutice, bien entendu, mais avec bienveillance, le nom du jeune virtuose, Roger de Francmesnil' (Translation: 'You are on the jury. Please remember, without injustice, of course, but with kindness, the name of the young virtuoso, Roger de Francmesnil'). With blank integral leaf.
