MAUPASSANT GUY DE: (1850-1893) French novelist. A.L.S., Maupassant, to one side of his personal printed correspondence card, Rue de Montchanin (Paris), n.d. (30 th March 1885), to Madame [Caroline] Commanville, in French. The novelist accepts an invitation to dinner, ‘Merci mille fois, chere madame et amie. Je serai tres heureux de diner chez vous le mercredi....Croyez toujours a mes sentiments les plus affectueux et les plus devoues et dites a votre mari toute mon amitie’ (Translation: ‘Thank you a thousand times, dear lady and friend. I will be very happy to have dinner with you on Wednesday…..Always believe in my most affectionate and devoted feelings and tell your husband of all my friendship’). Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Maupassant. About EX Caroline Commanville (1846-1931) French painter, the niece of Gustave Flaubert and sole heiress of the novelist’s manuscripts.
