BENES EDVARD: (1884-1948) President of Czechoslovakia 1935-38, 1940-45 (in exile) & 1945-48. The personal printed oblong 12mo Visiting Card of Benes, unsigned, featuring his printed name to the centre and address at Rue Bonaparte, Paris, to the base, with a few words of French text in his hand to the verso, in the third person, 'avec ses meilleurs voeux' (Translation: 'with his best wishes') and also dated 1st January 1918 (the year inked over to correct the mistake of 1917). VG Benes settled at 18 Rue Bonaparte in 1915 and the house would become the centre of foreign resistance striving for the creation of an independent Czechoslovakia, with many meetings between Benes and Tomas Masaryk taking place there.
