Description

LEGRAS CIE Art Nouveau vase; France, ca. 1900. "Pyrenees." Enameled cameo glass. With mark. Measurements: 15 x 8 x 5 cm. Cameo glass vase enriched with enamels and mottled in black, ocher-gold, pink and white tones in nuanced derivations. The piece represents a landscape of great naturalism, whose composition plays with emptiness to suggest a misty atmosphere. Formally, the piece presents a slight bulge in its central part. The firm Legras & Cie. was founded by Auguste Jean-François Legras (1817 - 1887) around 1864 in St. Denis, near Paris. At the beginning of the 20th century, the firm specialized in the production of acid-etched cameo glass, inspired by Gallé's pieces. Legras & Cie. produced a multitude of pieces for sale, as well as several of special quality for exhibition at international fairs.
