Description

19th century Italian writing desk. Various stained woods (walnut, mahogany, among others). Various marquetry decorations and bone and shell ornaments. It shows wear and tear and old xylophagous marks. Needs restoration. Measurements: 83 x 86 x 60 cm. This desk is distinguished by the two free-standing sculptures that decorate its front and that adopt the form of two hybrid beings with panther head, wings and turned body. Behind them is the main body, recessed, with two front doors with geometric decoration that are reflected in the side panels of the piece of furniture. The upper body consists of a slightly inclined desk sample that opens to the interior with spaces to store sheets and other elements. The sides of this upper body are embellished with medieval-inspired motifs worked with shell and bone inlays, as well as heraldic motifs on the top. The furniture is inspired by the English Davenport desks, very common in the 19th century. .
