Description

HENRYK KOSSOWSKI (Krakow, Poland, 1855-Paris, France, 1921). Garrison "La vendage", Art Nouveau, ca.1900. Green alabaster and gilt and blued calamine. With key and pendulum. Signed on the centerpiece, on the back of the clock. Measurements: 61 x 30 x 21 cm (clock); 58 x 14 x 14 x 14 cm (candlesticks). The set formed by the five-armed candelabra and the chimney clock is the work of the bronze artist Henrik Kossowaki. The title "The Harvest" is given by the sculpture of the slender female figure holding a bunch of grapes in one hand and a festoon of vine leaves in the other. The theme of the grape harvest is also reflected in the golden putti sitting on the pedestal. The clock face has Arabic numerals. Gilt cabriole feet support the three pieces with green alabaster bases. The candelabra are topped with sensual foliate lampshades. Henryk Kossowski was initially a student of his father, Henryk I Kossowski (1815-1878) and Marceli Guyski (1830-1893). After graduating from the School of Fine Arts in Krakow, he studied in Paris (among others with Mathurin Moreau). He exhibited in Paris and Vienna, as well as in Warsaw, Lviv and Krakow. He was famous for motifs of popular sculptural genre and portraits made in bronze, terracotta and patinated plaster.
