Statuette of the god of wealth Jambhala. Nepal, 19th century. H 10.8 cm, W 8.1 cm. Carved from the sacred stone Saligrama in Hinduism, partly colorfully painted, small turquoise inlays. The god is depicted ithyphallic and lunging, wearing a snake around his shoulder and holding a kapala (a bowl made from a human skull) with his right hand and a mongoose spitting out jewels with his left. All on an oval lotus base. Base cracked and glued, otherwise intact. Provenance: From the private collection of H. N. in Franconia, in this collection since 1988.
