A PAINTED POTTERY VASE, HU, HAN DYNASTY A PAINTED POTTERY VASE, HU, HAN DYNASTY China, 2nd century BC to 2nd century AD. Of globular form, rising from a gently spreading foot to a tall waisted neck with a banded mouth rim, applied to the shoulders with beast mask loop handles, and finely painted to the exterior in polychrome pigments. Depicting a hunting scene with a man on horseback aiming his bow and arrow at a mythical animal, the neck similarly painted with flaming swirls under a band of triangles. Provenance: Private Spanish collection. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Possibly old repairs and some touchups as generally expected from Han dynasty excavations. Few minor chips, light scratches, and soil encrustations. The paintings are presumably a later addition. Weight: 2,969 g Dimensions: Height 31.5 cm
